Now here’s a track to get excited about from two artists I love. Fools Gold head honcho and world champion scratch artist A-Trak has teamed up again with Los Angeles funky electro duo Oliver. This is the match made in dance heaven that brought us the track “Disco Nap“, it’s a favorite of mine that I love to play when I DJ EasyLove parties. “Zamboni” is the boys’ new track and you can clearly hear everyone’s style melded in. It’s got the funky but hard electro sounds that A-Trak has worked a lot with in the past year or so. Oliver’s contribution is clear through the track, parts have very BNR techno feels to them while still retaining its dirty electro sound. This track is going to get a lot of play from me in the next few months!
Catch it when it comes out this upcoming Tuesday the 10th!
This week’s Throwback Thursday, Above & Beyond’s “Small Moments”, fits the Thanksgiving themes of appreciation and looking-back to what we’re so fortunate to have in this world in the most perfect way possible. Its beauty lies in its simplicity, building upon a simple piano melody, later introducing vocal chants and lush pads, the combination of which is sure to send goosebumps down your spine. Keeping in line with the title, the song and accompanying video show how life is made up of small moments that make us realize how truly beautiful it is, like taking a picture with some friends, feeling pure unadulterated euphoria during a show, or spending time time with family. Listening to music creates so many important small moments that have impacted so many lives. We post music here in hopes that we can be part of those small moments of your life.
Dirtybird’s resident booty clapper Kill Frenzy has two new dirty additions to the label’s now vast selection of heavy and dirty house music. Don’t let the titular “Naked Piano” fool you with its intro of heavy sub hums or its gritty percussions, that pause in the middle is just to ready you for the real meat of the track. The muted, naked piano builds and gives way to laser synth that I know is going to destroy some clubs and festivals in the upcoming months. The B-side, “For The Ladies” is a track you should save for late at night when the Puritans are in bed. Kill Frenzy really put the dirty in dirtybird with this one. I’m talking sexy ghetto house here. I’ll let you listen for yourself, it’s the exact mix of goofy and dirty that defines Kill Frenzy, and dirtybird to a larger extent.

Need & Necessity, Matt Friedman and Ross Kiser, is the Colorado deep house duo I mentioned in my first blog post. They’re two solid up and coming producers who have already performed alongside Cyril Hahn, Ryan Hemsworth, and Duke Dumont. Their latest single, again off Denver’s Night Supply imprint, is a real testament to patience in house music. It takes a while for the track to really take off, you have to earn the funk. While it starts as a by-the-numbers jackin track with the omnipresent kick drum and hi hat, there are teases of low bass grooves and house’s always barely comprehensible vocals. Only after putting in the time to let each these parts build and combine does the song really come into its own with a very clean acid bassline. Once the song really finds its groove, its appeal is undeniable; it wouldn’t be surprising to hear this in a Duke Dumont or Shadowchild set. Stick with these guys, they won’t be in Colorado too much longer.

Dirtybird wizkid and USC Trojan Justin Jay is back at it again a few months after the release of his last EP. This time he has decided to put his deep and dirty touches to Russ Chimes epic disco cover of “Turn Me Out“. Justin has turned down Russ Chimes’ original’s flamboyant energy in favor of a deeper minimal groove. Very minimal. The flair has been replaced a drive of hypnotic beats. It’s not a banger, to really get into it you’re going to need a setup that can really highlight each frequency band in the track. Walk and nod to this track.
Catch it on Beatport December 2nd.
