Some people might wonder why someone would go in the opposite direction of their local music scene – especially if that someone is from Bristol - but that’s exactly what my fellow redhead Julio Bashmore has been up to. In a country known for shitty weather and grimy music, Bashmore went in a direction more associated with the golden state of California – the booty bass sound of Claude Vonstroke’s dirtybird Records. While Bashmore was pondering whether to go to university or focus on music fulltime, the bird swooped in right in the nick of time, signing his first EP, Um Bongo’s Revenge, at the very end of 2009. The rest is history.

The reason I’m bringing up Bashmore right now is that he’s recently released his fourth EP, Everyone Needs a Theme Tune (out on PMR). It’s very rare that I pick up every track off an EP as I usually just select my favorite one or two and skip the rest, but this four-track EP has not one minute of filler, each one is a unique gem. I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite so I rolled a four-sided dice and landed on ‘Battle for Middle You,’ but I highly suggest you go on Beatport and check out the rest of the EP here.

In order to stick to the booty bass dirtybird theme of this post, I highly recommend the dirtybird lady, J. Phlip‘s remix of Justin Martin‘s ‘Get Low’ as well – guaranteed crowd pleasing material.
